Is AI Making Us Better Investors or Just Lazier?

Artificial intelligence has become a huge part of our everyday lives. Whether it's helping us with homework, answering random questions, or explaining complicated topics, AI makes finding information much easier. One area where It hink AI is becoming especially useful is investing. However, this has made me wonder whether AI is actually helping people become better investors or just making them lazier.

I first started learning about investing when I was around 15 years old. At the time, I spent a lot of time watching YouTube videos, reading books, and trying to understand how the stock market worked. I remember being confused by financial statements and different investing terms. Even though it took a while to understand everything, I think going through that learning process helped me become more interested in finance.

Nowadays, someone can open ChatGPT and ask almost anything about investing. For example, if you don't understand a company's financial statements, AI can break them down into simpler terms within seconds. Instead of spending hours researching something, you can get a basic understanding almost immediately.

I think this is a great thing, especially for beginners who might feel overwhelmed when they first start investing. Not everyone has someone who can teach them about stocks or personal finance, so having access to these tools can make learning a lot easier.

At the same time, I think there are some problems with relying on AI too much.

One thing I've noticed is how easy it is to accept an AI response without questioning it. Sometimes, when I ask ChatGPT a question, the answer sounds so confident that I almost forget it could be wrong. When it comes to investing, this could be a serious problem because real money is involved.

Imagine someone asking AI which stock they should buy and immediately investing their savings based on that response. They might not understand the company, its financial situation, or the risks involved. If the investment performs poorly, they probably wouldn't even understand why.

As a Management Information Systems student, I find this interesting because technology is supposed to make our lives easier. However, I don't think making something easier always means we're getting better at it.

Personally, I think AI should be used to help us learn rather than make decisions for us. For example, instead of asking ChatGPT what stock to buy, I would rather use it to understand financial ratios, compare companies, or explain something I don't understand.

I also think it's important to double-check information instead of assuming everything AI says is correct.

Overall, I believe AI has the potential to make investing more accessible to everyone. However, I also think people need to put in the effort to actually understand what they're doing. AI can give us answers, but it can't replace the importance of thinking for ourselves.

Do you think AI is making people better at investing, or are we becoming too dependent on technology to make decisions?
